Junk Journal - 49 and Market Spectrum Sherbert

Hello my crafty friends, well let me bring you a colourful little piece to brighten your wet, wild and woolly winter days....hope your all managing to keep warm and dry.
Bring on summer I say.

Here today I'm playing with the beautiful 49 and Market Spectrum Sherbet.
The colours are so gorgeous and bright in this beautiful collection.

This time instead of covering a journal I've made junk journal from scratch.
Let me show you how.

Grab a few sheets of paper, they can be plain photocopy paper or printed on, tea dyed paper, specialty paper like tissue or velum; what ever you have in your stash that would be of use to become your signature.

1. Cut your pages so they measure 21cm x14.5cm and I had 23.
(folded in half will give you 46 pages).

2. Fold each one in half.

3. Once you have them all, lay them down flat stacked on top of each other and mark 3 holes evenly spaced across the fold and pierce right through.
This will be the holes you will sew thread through to hold your pages together to the cover.
Then set aside.

4. Cut chipboard: 2 pieces at 15.5cm x 11.5cm
1 piece at 15.5cm x 2cm
They will form your front and back cover and your spine piece.

5. I covered my chipboard with a co-ordinating coloured paper.
(Below you see the cream coloured paper but on the other side I have used the red design that matches - you will see that in the next photo)

Glue your chipboard pieces onto the designer paper leaving about 2mm or 3mm between the 2 larger pieces and the middle spine piece.
That way when you close the journal it has room to fold.

6. Once you have covered the journal front, spine and back cover, you then grab your 49 and Market - Strawberry Mango sheet of paper and work out what piece you want to use for your cover, your back cover and a piece for your spine.

Cut the pieces 2mm smaller than your journal so you can see your co-ordinating paper behind.

7. Before you glue your 3 pieces into place, pick a co-ordinating ribbon that you will use to form your closure.

Glue that in the middle of your journal straight across from on side to the other.

8. Than glue your design paper over the top into position.

So now you should have your journal cover completely covered and your ribbon in place to tie together to close.

9. Now back to your signature, grab one page that already should have your holes marked
(you would have done back in step 3)
and pierce through the covered journal on the spine so it goes right through.
You will sew all pages to the spine all in one go.

10. Using a thicker cotton, like embroidery thread or string; grab all your pages and open it up in the middle.
Sew your pages to the spine, you will go through the holes starting in the centre fold of your pages right through then lining it up with the matching hole marked on the spine, out then in again. Do this till you have secured your pages to your spine.
Tie off on the inside so the pages don't fall out.

11. Now once you have finished you can decorate your front cover.
I cut pieces from the back side of the Strawberry Mango sheet which were spare after cutting my front and back covers.
I used the ephemera pieces that co-ordinated with the paper.

12. I used a second sheet of the Strawberry Mango to fussy cut the flowers and butterfly from.

13. Stick pieces down in layers to make it a 3D effect using foam tape.

I also used matching paper flowers and metal embellishments to decorate.

I also used Glitter and pearls to finish off the cover

So your Junk Journal is now ready for you to fill.
Inside you can stick photo's, tickets you have kept from an event you went to, there is plenty of room to write in your journal any notes. You can decorate with stickers in there, washi tape.
Anything really, make it yours there is no rule on how you can use your journal.

Thanks for joining me once again.
I hope you enjoyed the making of the journal.
It hopefully will make you want to make one yourself, we'd love to see it if you do.

Until next time.

Happy Crafting.

Niki
